Review – Afternoon Tea at the Headland Hotel
There’s nothing I love more than treating myself to afternoon tea. It feels like a novelty being able to indulge in yummy crustless sandwiches, a handful of delicious cakes, as well as a tasty Cornish cream tea…remember jam first then the clotted cream on top. The whole experience reminds me a little of going to birthday parties as a child. You feel nice and full after…however you know it’s not from anything nourishing or healthy! Don’t get me wrong, if I had the chance I would opt for this option everyday like the upper class women in the 18o0’s, if I wasn’t so health conscious. One lunchtime recently, I decided to say goodbye to my healthy salads and went for afternoon tea at the Headland Hotel instead.
The Headland Hotel is located at the North end of Fistral Beach in Newquay. It is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean and the views are idyllic. The four star hotel is an iconic landmark in Newquay and it is well known for its class and elegance. As well as it being known as a popular holiday resort, the hotel is also open to locals who may enjoy the spa facilities and restaurant.
I have only been to the Headland hotel a few times, mainly to indulge in the spa at the weekend or to watch the sunset whilst sipping one of their fancy cocktails. These occasions were great so I really looked forward to going and experiencing their afternoon tea.
The dining area where you sit for afternoon tea is beautiful, it overlooks Fistral beach and the room feels classy and has great atmosphere. Staff were well groomed and very attentive, and the afternoon tea didn’t take very long to arrive.
The afternoon tea was presented well and was served on a three tier cake stand. The tiers were pretty standard with crustless sandwiches on the bottom tier, two great big whopping scones on the middle and a beautiful selection of cakes, including fancy macaroons on the top…my favourite! The treats on every tier were totally delicious and of really good quality. I’m actually a little embarrassed as I’m sure the waiters were surprised at how quick the food disappeared from the cake stand.
All in all I would highly recommend the afternoon tea at the Headland Hotel. So next time you are in Newquay and really fancy treating yourself or a dear friend, make sure you book yourself in.
