Day Spa at Watergate Bay Hotel

Day Spa at Watergate Bay Hotel
At cocktails & Wanderlust we just love to go and check out and enjoy luxurious hotels and spa’s, therefore we decided to pay the Watergate Bay Hotel a little visit.
The Watergate Bay Hotel is nestled in the cliffs at the beautiful Watergate Bay, 5 miles outside of Newquay. The beach is well-known for extreme water sports activities, and each year there are numerous events and sporting competitions that take place. The beach is also famous for Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant, so as you can imagine the bay attracts many visitors each year.
There’s no need to book a nights stay to enjoy the hotels facilities. If you are living locally or staying nearby, you can always book a day membership package for around £80 each. The package includes a day at the swim club (this includes use of the 25m swimming pool, terrace hot tub, cardio room as well as access to the ocean room and cafe bar) and a 60 minute treatment of your choice. If you visit outside of the School holidays between Monday & Friday you can also pay a little more to include a two course lunch at the Beach Hut or Living Space. You can find out more here.

The Swim Club

The interior of the hotel and swim club is simply gorgeous. Having been decked out in a contemporary beach shabby chic style, the ambience reflects the hotels natural environment. The changing facilities are really clean and modern, and the hotel provides towels and free lockers. They also have scrummy smelling grapefruit & Lime hand wash and chamomile & frankincense hand cream in every bathroom, which you can buy to take home from their shop. All their ‘Another Place’ products are completely natural and are totally divine.

The Pool

If you have ever looked at any pictures of the infinity pool at Watergate Bay Hotel, then you don’t need us to tell you how incredible it is. The pool is 25 meters long, which is a pretty reasonable size by most hotel standards. Like any infinity pool it gives you the impression that it merges into the surrounding area, in this case it’s the Atlantic ocean in front of the hotel and it’s fantastic being able to enjoy the beautiful view whilst you are swimming. Again the pool is decorated in a beach style to reflect the natural environment, and the windows can bi-fold open so you almost feel like you are outside without being disturbed by the elements.

The Decking & Hot Tub

Surrounding the swimming pool is an outside sun terrace with plenty of seating and a beautiful hot tub. So after your swim you can continue to enjoy the stunning views further. Outdoor hot tubs provide a perfect way to embrace the environment without getting too cold or wind swept, which beats any indoor stuffy spa.

60 minute treatment

We chose the massage for our 60 minute treatment, however there is a list of other treatments you can choose from such as a facial or manicure etc.

Whilst waiting for your treatment there is a beautiful relaxation snug that provides comfortable seats as well as water / hot drinks and magazines. A perfect way to put your feet-up and unwind before being treated further.

The 60 minute massage was exactly what you would expect from their spa. You are provided with a selection of essential oils to choose from and I can guarantee you will leave the treatment room feeling totally amazing and revitalized.

Ocean Room

If you are done with the swim club, the day membership also includes access to the beautiful ocean room which again is decked out in a beach shabby chic style and it offers the same view of Watergate Bay. It’s a perfect place to grab a coffee and magazine and enjoy some ‘quite time’.

Lunch at The Beach Hut

The day package also includes lunch at the Beach Hut restaurant, which is a stones throw away from the hotel right on the beach. You can sit and eat your meal either inside, or there are also tables on an outside decking area. I think you get the picture that wherever you are at the Watergate Bay Hotel, you don’t need to miss out on the beautiful view of the beach and ocean.

The menu at the Beach Hut is pretty varied. If you fancy something healthy or light there are some great seafood or salad options. However if you feel like you have earned more after your day of swimming and pampering, there’s also the nachos or burger option. After a morning of health and fitness we decided to go for the healthy option which was hummus and flat bread to start, followed by a superfood salad. The Beach Hut also offers a great range of beverages such as an Extreme Hot Chocolate or classic cocktails.

    Hi Laura,

I just wanted to say thanks for your recommendation. I had the day off on Friday and was looking for somewhere to go and relax with my other half. We ended up going to the Watergate Bay hotel for the swim and dine deal which was amazing. It was lovely and quiet in the pool and we could see the sun set. The food was also amazing. I’ll definitely be going again. Thanks, Claire x
