Coffee is one of life’s luxuries that should never be taken for granted. From the sensational fresh aromas to the pleasant aftertastes… I’m not sure how anyone can live without it. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Coffee with Currys blogger event, where a bunch of us had the opportunity to smell, taste and make wonderful coffees for the afternoon.
About 50 bloggers attended the event and it was held at the beautiful Waterloo Tea cafe at their Wyndham Arcade venue. I highly recommend you drop by there for a bite to eat if you are shopping in Cardiff, their food and drink is fab.
During the afternoon, we were all split into about five groups of ten and we all had the opportunity to experience the four stations that the event organisers had set up for us. They were as follows:
- Nespresso machine – How they work and the different types on the market
- Latte art
- Blind coffee tasting (cupping)
- Coffee cocktails
The latte art station was so much more difficult than the barista made it look. It was quite hilarious trying to create pretty heart designs out of foamed milk. As you can see from the pictures above our attempts weren’t very successful and I’m not sure many of us managed to achieve the desired result. When I order coffee in the future I will be sure to appreciate the designs even more…although I’m sure practice makes perfect right?
The blind coffee tasting was also great fun, it was really interesting to have the opportunity to taste all the different flavours that Nespresso have on offer. They ranged from being bitter, mellow, fruity, chocolatey and nutty… so there really is a type for everyones taste. I much prefer the smooth and fruity ones. I’m not sure whether I could take up coffee tasting as a profession though, towards the day I started to get a little headache and felt quite wired. Again, I wasn’t the only one who felt this way…see the jazz hands picture of some of us below.
I have to say we saved my favourite station to last. The coffee cocktails! We were kindly shown how to make two great cocktail recipes, Coffee Orange Martini and a Toblerone Cocktail. They were b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l! Watch this space because I intend on making them again and I will share the full recipes with you.
All in all, I really enjoyed the Coffee with Currys blogger event. It was great to meet and network with lots of other bloggers as well as drink great coffee. Nespresso appears to be a great coffee brand who are clearly passionate about the products and coffee they supply to their customers. I must admit I am slightly sold on them and I’m even hoping Santa will bring me one for Christmas so I can practice all my new skills.
