Finca Malvasia – perfect family getaway
Once again, my husband and I have taken another trip to Lanzarote. It’s starting to feel like a second home to us. We know the place so well now, the surf breaks, best beaches and to top it off we have great friends there.
Usually we book our flights and sort out the rest when we arrive. However our most recent trip was different. It needed to be more special, with it being our first family holiday with our baby girl. Somewhere more luxurious than our usual basic apartment in Famara was required.
Not being ones for booking a holiday package, we were looking for accommodation that felt authentic. Somewhere we could totally relax and spend time as a family. A place called Finca Malvasia then sprung to mind. We had been there in the past to visit the owners Richard and Tarnya, however we had never had the pleasure of staying there. We knew it would be the perfect place to stay on our trip.
Finca Malvasia is a family run, rustic boutique style guesthouse. It’s located off a beaten track in the islands beautiful wine region. The place is so picturesque, with four contemporary apartments positioned around a stunning lagoon style swimming pool. Beyond the poolside and beautiful tropical gardens, you’ll find mesmerising uninterrupted views of the black volcanic landscape. The natural surroundings makes it feel like your at a secluded retreat, somewhere you can truly relax and unwind.
It takes no time to get to, located 7km from the airport. You can also get to Famara beach in a 10 minute drive.
Out of the four apartments at Finca Malvasia, we chose to stay in the Bodega which is catered for two.
Each apartment has its own private terrace overlooking the pool. However we were fortunate to have our own additional private garden and dining area. It’s a perfect place to sit and watch the sunset whilst sipping on a glass of bubbles or two.
Built with a Canarian touch, the apartments are in keeping with the island’s famous designer César Manrique. The exposed volcanic stone walls complement the islands natural surroundings.
There is so much to do at Finca Malvasia and it’s a great place for wellness. There is the opportunity for you to de-stress with the on-site yoga hut. If you are really looking for a treat you can arrange a spa treatment or massage.
If you are the type of person who rejuvenates by being active, there is also gym equipment in the hut. Alternatively if you want to be outdoors there is a beautiful walk starting from your doorstep. You can weave your way through the horse-shoe shaped rock wall vineyards, up to one of the volcano’s. The views at the top are incredible.
We are totally in love with the place! It’s recommended that you pay for the hamper which is made up with wine and breakfast items. It’s well worth the extra charge so you can instantly relax on arrival.
The apartments are just gorgeous. I felt torn between wanting to enjoy the beautiful views outside and wanting to put on my fluffy bathrobe and enjoy the apartment. The beautiful beds are made up with white Egyptian cotton sheets.
We were really pleased because the apartments are really child friendly. Not only is there the swimming pool for the kids to enjoy, Tarnya provided us with a box of toys for when they are inside. We didn’t need all this with our baby this time, however we have made note for the future.
Staying with Richard and Tarnya at Finca Malvasia felt great for the soul. It is so peaceful there, after a day of exploring or surfing waves you can go back to their hideaway and totally switch off.
